The Bunting Festival is bringing contemporary art into the streets of Armley, providing a safe environment for people to come together and celebrate art which we’re asking you – the residents of Armley – to get involved in!
A 4-week long public art festival, The Bunting Festival invites everyone – whether with your family or by yourself – to contribute bunting flags of your own design, expressing your personal reflections on your experiences and impacts that the COVID-19 lockdown has had on you.
We’ll be hosting regular workshops – both online and in-person – where you can learn how to get started on your bunting kits, and to get more inspiration and tips for your designs.
Once finished, everyone's flags will be collected and strung together to create strings of bunting that will be hung in the participating streets of Armley and arts venues in the area.
By bringing together everyone’s individual responses in this way, The Bunting Festival wants to celebrate the local Armley community. Associated with bunting, the festival hopes to rekindle feelings of celebration - of street parties and communities coming together - something which might currently be lacking in our day-to-day lives. It will bring everyone together in safe outdoor spaces, providing a space for you to be able to celebrate yourselves and your art on your very own doorstep. The festival can't solve the overall crisis that the pandemic has brought us, but we believe it can bring the community together.
